Welcome to Dr. Rodrigo N. Calheiros' homepage

About me

I'm an Associate Professor in Information and Communication Technologies at the School of Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences (CDMS), Western Sydney University, Australia, where I co-direct the Smart and Distributed Computing (SDC) Lab.

My research focuses on systems aspects and resource management in the context of edge computing, Internet of Things, and cloud computing. Other topics I worked on in the past include scientific workflows and simulation, and emulation of distributed systems. The quality and impact of my research have been recognised with the IEEE TCSC 2017 Award for Excellence (Middle Career Researcher). I've also been recognized an IEEE Computer Society 2021 Distinguished Contributor.

I also supervise and co-supervise research students. I can accept students for research Master (Master of Research or Master of ICT(Research)) and PhD.

I am passionate about innovative methods for learning and teaching. I advocate for authentic assessments (those that assess knowledge in the context where it is exercised in the workplace) and for peer review of teaching as a method to improve the quality of teaching. I have been recognised as a Fellow of the United Kingdom's Advance HE (former Higher Education Academy).
